ACTIVITIES OF HARTLEY DISTRICT PROGRESS ASSOCIATION
YEAR OCTOBER 2007 TO OCTOBER 2008
Big Backyard 2007
Another very successful
and busy day, well attended, profit $4096, of which $2000 was
donated to the support
unit of Lithgow High School, and $1000 to the Kingsley family
towards the purchase of special equipment for their partially
sighted daughter.
Spirit of Hartley Award
To Ken Crossman.Thanks, Ken for all those odd jobs quietly
and consistently done for us.
Guest speakers to Progress Association
meetings
Seamus Casey, life on an offshore oil rig.
Edwina Mitchell, representative
from the Department of Primary Industries, with information on
equine influenza.
Dr Richard Stiles, canoeing across Bass Strait.
Tim Trevor Jones,
Nurse Unit Manager, Opeate Treatment Service (Methadone) Katoomba
and Lithgow, on the dispensing of drugs
and addiction through medication.
David Peters, environmentalist,
re the unique and endangered fauna of Hartley.
Christmas Party, Sunday, 9th December
Well attended,
fun activities for children and adults.
Australia Day
Flag
lowering ceremony and sausage sizzle, those few who attended
enjoyed the sausage sizzle,
damper and lamingtons.
Clean up Australia Campaign
A
few members gathered to collect
rubbish, some also worked on other days to add to the pile
near The Diner.
175th Anniversary Celebrations
of the Victoria Pass
A few members took part, particularly assisting
the Hartley Bush Fire Brigade
with the catering at the Hartley Historic Village. It was
an interesting and colourful day.
Garden Club visits
Bartlett’s
property at Hartley Vale, including Earl’s shed to
see his fascinating drum making.
“Lawson Park”,
the property of Barry Wilton and Martin Raphael, to see and
sample produce
from their
wonderful vegetable gardens.
Crossman’s for Cancer Council
Biggest Morning Tea, where we raised $225.
Moodie’s
property, Gap Road, to walk to mine regeneration area.
David
Peters’ property to find the weir which supplied water
to the historic village of Hartley Vale and shale oil works.
Dargan
to visit Fran Duffy’s amazing garden, to
see her use of water and life without mains power.

Ceillis
Diane has introduced Irish Set Dancing to Hartley
with enthusiasm. From the small profit she has bought and planted
some extra trees on the school grounds.Thanks, Diane.
Thanks
to our President, Seamus, Vice President, Chris (elected at the
February meeting), and Treasurer, Roy for their consistent
work and support. Roy’s accurate accounting and money
management keep us well on track.
